Caring For My Plumeria

Aloha! Mahalo for taking a little piece of Hawaii home with you. Currently, I enjoy sitting in a window sill with lots of light. I like to have a little water to keep my soil moist. Please know that I really dislike being saturated in water and don't like getting my feet/roots too wet.

My favorite place to be is outside and in as much sun as possible. Keep in mind I've been inside for a while and might need to gradually move to full sun. I could get sunburned! The more I grow, the less water I need. I get nourishment from the sun and will grow to the size of my pot. When temperatures get below 50◦ F, I get really cold. Please take me inside or cover me!

When I get stronger and have a sturdy trunk, I would enjoy being moved into a clay pot with cactus soil. Put some Styrofoam peanuts or stones at the bottom of my new pot. This provides great drainage!

In the winter, I lose my leaves and spend some time in dormancy. If I look like a stick, I'm perfectly happy and will get my leaves back when I am done resting.

Depending on my pot size, I'll bloom any time after two years. My mom, Ms. Plumeria, took 7 years to bloom because she was in a big pot.

Oh yeah, one more thing, what's my name?
